Annual Hanukkah Contest

Due to the situation in Israel, the annual Hanukkah contest named after Eva Weil za’l took place this year in a slightly different format from previous years because we were not allowed to gather all the children in the “Caty and Mona Dreyfuss” Center in Beer-Sheva.
Eva Weil, who volunteered for years in Negba, devoted all her time and knowledge to helping children develop and improve. Each year, Eva’s family presents a Hanukkah Award of Excellence in her memory.
The theme chosen this year was “Share the light and push back the darkness”. In this context, the children and adolescents of Negba have chosen to shine more light by participating in various volunteer projects of their choice.
They touched us with their projects, their spirit of volunteerism and the attention and love they showed towards each other. Among the projects chosen were volunteering in a retirement home, volunteering in a shelter for the dogs of evacuees and reservists, cleaning up waste from the grove, distributing cookies and happy messages to local residents, all actions aimed at illustrating the theme of the year by radiating light around them.
In addition, in reference to the annual educational program on sustainable development, the children made Hanukka Menorahs from recycled materials. The design of the Menorahs reflected the situation in the country: we could see the heroes of Israel, the wars of Israel, the soldiers of the IDF and how to behave during alerts.
The children presented and explained their artworks and the process that led them to design their beautiful creations.
We ended the evening with a festive lighting of candles in each group, letting a very bright light shine.
