{"id":2546,"date":"2019-04-14T13:50:22","date_gmt":"2019-04-14T11:50:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/?p=2546"},"modified":"2019-04-14T13:48:53","modified_gmt":"2019-04-14T11:48:53","slug":"negba-youths-complete-intensive-fire-services-course-join-its-ranks-as-volunteers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/en\/2019\/04\/14\/negba-youths-complete-intensive-fire-services-course-join-its-ranks-as-volunteers\/","title":{"rendered":"Negba Youths Complete Intensive Fire Services Course, Join its Ranks as Volunteers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Two Negba\nteens, Maxim, 15, and Omer, 16, completed a rigorous 5-month course at\nBeersheva\u2019s fire services and will volunteer there for the duration of high\nschool.&nbsp; The two were among 50 high school students who were selected for\nthe much sought-after internship, making the cut from among 300\napplicants.&nbsp; The intensive practical and theoretical curriculum was\ngrueling \u2013 only 30 actually completed the course- and they both experienced\ndoubts along the way.&nbsp; But each of them worked extremely hard to complete\nit, and will now serve as volunteers in a program rich with opportunities for\npersonal growth and skills development. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf it\nweren\u2019t for Negba, I wouldn\u2019t even have applied,\u201d said Omer.&nbsp; \u201cI was told\nthat I didn\u2019t meet the requirements.&nbsp; But Simon, our mentor at Negba,\npushed us to pursue it and made sure we had everything in order.&nbsp; Simon is\nthe reason we completed it.&nbsp; He pushed us to study, and made sure we were\nready.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Omer and\nMaxim first met Simon, 21, through his brother, who attended Negba with\nthem.&nbsp; They occasionally saw Simon in the bakery where he worked during\nhigh school to help support his family. When Simon began to volunteer at\nNegba\u2019s Teen Club, taking the teens to volunteer at a senior residence home,\nand speaking to them about the challenges he faced as a teen, Omer and Maxim\ncould completely relate.&nbsp; \u201cSimon is a model of success for us,\u201d said Maxim.&nbsp;\n\u201cWe were born in the same neighborhood.&nbsp; What he went through, so did\nwe.&nbsp; He helps his family, and is completing his matriculations exams to\nmake something of himself.&nbsp; He\u2019s helping me make something of myself by\npushing me to obtain the internship.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"974\" height=\"863\" src=\"https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/les-deux-en-pompier.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2553\" srcset=\"https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/les-deux-en-pompier.jpeg 974w, https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/les-deux-en-pompier-300x266.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/les-deux-en-pompier-768x680.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 974px) 100vw, 974px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout\nthe course the two learned all the inner workings of a fire station from\nequipment and vehicle maintenance, to logistics and communications.&nbsp; But\nmost importantly, they learned skills which will help them for life, and they\nlearned to work in a team.&nbsp; \u201cIt\u2019s like a family at the station,\u201d recalls\nOmer.&nbsp; \u201cYou learn the value of discipline and respect.&nbsp; You learn how\nto speak and behave properly.\u201d&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maxim and\nOmer will now volunteer in all kinds of areas at the station, and even\naccompany fire trucks to calls.&nbsp; The adrenaline rush, and the appeal of\nhelping the community, will likely drive both of them to volunteer more than\nthe minimum 8 monthly hours required.&nbsp; And Maxim has another personal\nmotivation: his grandfather served as a career firefighter himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe program\nwill undoubtedly help Maxim and Omer in their future careers,\u201d said\nSimon.&nbsp;
