Two of them, Margalit Raviv and Miri Farouz, assist once a week at Negba\u2019s Jerusalem Grosman After-School Home for Children.&nbsp; They\u2019ve been volunteering for three years now, having been introduced to Negba through the Hadassah Israel Women\u2019s Organization, in which they are active members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe work one-on-one with the children on school subjects they struggle with,\u201d said Miri, a retired engineer who lives in the Kiryat Hayovel neighborhood.&nbsp; \u201cIt can be in language, reading comprehension, math, English, even proper penmanship.\u201d &nbsp;Miri meets with two fourth graders every week for roughly 40 minutes, working with each for the entire year, according to a work plan designed by Negba\u2019s program coordinators in consultation with the children\u2019s school teachers.&nbsp; Margalit, a retired HR executive living in the Kirat Hayovel neighborhood, also tutors two fourth graders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-03-10-at-09.05.28r2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2424\" width=\"383\" height=\"255\" srcset=\"https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-03-10-at-09.05.28r2.jpeg 765w, https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-03-10-at-09.05.28r2-300x200.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 383px) 100vw, 383px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe kids are always waiting for me when I arrive, and it gives me lots of satisfaction,\u201d remarked Margalit.&nbsp; \u201cI make sure to arrange my personal schedule so that I never miss a single Thursday at Negba.&nbsp; The tutoring sessions are so important to me because I know it advances the children and I\u2019m committed to help them.&nbsp; Negba\u2019s staff constantly tells us how much of a help we are.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The academic improvement of each of Margalit and Miri\u2019s students is tracked closely, to assure goals are met.&nbsp; One of Margalit\u2019s students could barely read when she began to instruct him, but now he is rapidly progressing through the workbook they use together.&nbsp; Equally important is the social and emotional growth the children gain from the personal attention offered by Miri and Margalit through conversations and the playing of board games, which is often lacking at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-03-10-at-09.05.30-1-1024x576.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2252\" width=\"256\" height=\"144\" srcset=\"https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-03-10-at-09.05.30-1-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-03-10-at-09.05.30-1-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-03-10-at-09.05.30-1-768x432.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-03-10-at-09.05.30-1.jpeg 1328w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 256px) 100vw, 256px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>And the Hadassah Israel Women\u2019s Organization volunteers \u2013 4 of them in all \u2013 don\u2019t just look out for one or two of Negba\u2019s kids; they\u2019ve sponsored and organized numerous outings for all of the Grosman After-School Home\u2019s children, such as a Purim party, a movie trip, and a visit to the Jerusalem Zoo, to name a few.&nbsp; \u201cIt\u2019s important that kids have a framework, and are not at home in front of screens,\u201d said Miri.&nbsp; \u201cAt Negba they have what to do, gain values, learn how to participate in society, experience how to behave.&nbsp;
