Approximately ten kids from grades 2 through 6\npassed the intensive audition for the Negba Children\u2019s Choir, which was open to\nall Negba children.&nbsp; Members of the choir possess the full range of\nvoices- alto, soprano, and tenor- of a professional singing group.&nbsp; And\nthey also are heavily committed, since the weekly evening rehearsal takes place\non their own time, after the hours of Negba\u2019s regular\nactivities.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cWe\u2019ve been\ndreaming of establishing a choir for Negba\u2019s young children for some time,\u201d\nsaid Eyal Peretz, Negba\u2019s Program Director.&nbsp; \u201cWe already run a children\u2019s\nmusic Appreciation cooperative with the Israel Sinfonietta in Beersheva, and\nthis choir is another chance for children who love music and singing to more\nactively participate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Negba\u2019s teens already\nenjoy two participatory music programs- a music empowerment seminar, and the\nNegba Teen Band.&nbsp; Eyal sensed the opportunity had arrived for a similar\nprogram for Negba\u2019s younger children when two national service volunteers with\nmusical backgrounds, Hadar Bach and Hallel Biti, joined Negba&rsquo;s staff at its\nAfter-School Homes for Children.&nbsp; Both play piano and are musically\ninclined, having taken music\/voice lessons from a young age. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-01-27-at-18.00.48-1-768x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2191\" width=\"192\" height=\"256\" srcset=\"https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-01-27-at-18.00.48-1.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-01-27-at-18.00.48-1-225x300.jpeg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 192px) 100vw, 192px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI love being in the choir!\u00a0 It is the most fun thing I do at Negba,\u201d said Shira, 11.\u00a0 \u201cIt also makes me feel special and I\u2019ve met lots of new children from other Negba Homes.\u201d \u00a0\u00a0Fellow choir member, Nahorai, 8, expressed a similar feeling.\u00a0 \u201cI never ever sang in a choir before, and it gave me a chance to sing for the first time.\u00a0 I feel that I\u2019m doing something that I am really good at and I\u2019m proud of myself.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Academic\nresearch demonstrates a strong correlation between group choral singing and\nincreased self-confidence, improved demeanor and ability to cope with\nstress.&nbsp; All of these are outcomes Negba aims to achieve for the children\nin its care. &nbsp;&nbsp;And, perhaps along the way, a star will be discovered:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\nhad a dream one night that I was on the <strong><em>Got Talent<\/em><\/strong> show,\u201d\nrecalled Shoval, age 9.&nbsp;
