{"id":1947,"date":"2018-10-14T13:32:12","date_gmt":"2018-10-14T11:32:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/?p=1947"},"modified":"2018-10-14T13:32:12","modified_gmt":"2018-10-14T11:32:12","slug":"staff-spotlight-avia-haba-and-tamar-barak-return-for-second-year-of-national-service-aim-to-make-even-deeper-impact","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/en\/2018\/10\/14\/staff-spotlight-avia-haba-and-tamar-barak-return-for-second-year-of-national-service-aim-to-make-even-deeper-impact\/","title":{"rendered":"Staff Spotlight:  Avia Haba and Tamar Barak Return for Second Year of National Service, Aim to Make Even Deeper Impact"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Negba is privileged to count 28 national service volunteers among its staff ranks in Beersheva and Jerusalem.\u00a0 Known fondly as \u201c<em>Bnot Sherut<\/em>,\u201d these energetic young women are a valuable resource in Israel\u2019s workforce, committing to serve at non-profits across Israel prior to their university studies.\u00a0 At Negba, two Bnot Sherut, <strong>Avia Haba<\/strong> and <strong>Tamar Barak<\/strong>, both 19, decided to volunteer for a second year.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1949\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1949\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1949\" src=\"https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/IMG_7225-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/IMG_7225-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/IMG_7225-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/IMG_7225.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1949\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tamar and Avia\u00a0decided to volunteer for a second year<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI could have begun my academic studies this year, or volunteered for another year at a different organization,\u201d said Tamar.\u00a0 \u201cBut I decided to return to Negba because I wanted to complete the process.\u00a0 Now I fully understand my role here, and I can make a deeper influence from the first day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tamar\u2019s colleague Avia, with whom she works at a Negba Beersheva After-School Home leading social, academic and cultural enrichment for 30 children in grades 4-6, underscored the impact their decision made on the kids.\u00a0 \u201cAt Negba we are in contact with the same children for 5 hours a day for an entire year.\u00a0 It took time to earn their trust, but now we have close relationships with each kid,\u201d Avia reflected.\u00a0 \u201cWe are influential figures to them now.\u00a0 By returning for a second year we provide additional stability in their lives, and we can help them even more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That trust and stability is possibly the most important element of Avia\u2019s and Tamar\u2019s work.\u00a0 Both women were critical figures in the revelation of a number of serious personal matters as a result of their closeness with the children.\u00a0 Negba\u2019s professionals were then able to sensitively help the children and provide the appropriate care.<\/p>\n<p>But it is evident that Tamar and Avia both receive as much as they give in their work at Negba.\u00a0 \u201cI love to work here because we are given much freedom to try new things,\u201d said Tamar.\u00a0 \u201cI learned so much about how to run a group and work in front of a crowd.\u00a0 And If we want to experiment in a new area, or run a program about a specific subject, the staff here is very open to our ideas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Avia concurred.\u00a0 \u201cWhat makes it special at Negba is that the staff wants us to learn as individuals, and gain professional skills too.\u00a0 I can experience in different areas and develop myself, and try out new skills.
