{"id":1168,"date":"2018-06-18T09:40:23","date_gmt":"2018-06-18T07:40:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/?p=1168"},"modified":"2018-06-18T09:58:19","modified_gmt":"2018-06-18T07:58:19","slug":"negbas-theater-appreciation-project-life-lessons-on-stage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/en\/2018\/06\/18\/negbas-theater-appreciation-project-life-lessons-on-stage\/","title":{"rendered":"Negba\u2019s Theater Appreciation Project: Life Lessons on Stage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An important part of Negba\u2019s mission\u00a0is to enable children in its care to develop their cultural capacities to the same levels as children born into families with greater opportunities.\u00a0 Negba\u2019s Theater Appreciation project is one example of Negba\u2019s success at broadening the children\u2019s horizons and piquing their interest in other areas. \u00a0\u00a0Thanks to a free subscription from the Beersheva Theater, Negba\u2019s 4-6<sup>th<\/sup> graders and Teens attend five performances throughout the year.\u00a0 The plays are then discussed the following day, to help process the message and share one\u2019s thoughts.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1170\" src=\"https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_3768-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_3768-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_3768-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/negba.org\/negba2018\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_3768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>\u201cMy favorite play was <em>Kidnapping from the Monastery<\/em> because it had a happy ending,\u201d said Daniel T., 10.\u00a0 \u201cThe play taught me we should be nice to each other.\u00a0 I like to go to the shows because they are fun and they teach us how to behave.\u201d\u00a0 Liam K., also 10, echoed Daniel\u2019s sentiment.\u00a0 \u201cI loved the show <em>Mommy, Don\u2019t Come<\/em> which was about a school recital.\u00a0 One girl didn\u2019t want her sick mother to come because she was embarrassed by her.\u00a0 I learned that it\u2019s important to always share my feelings with my parents, to tell them everything and not to be ashamed of them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Theater Appreciation project, like Negba\u2019s Music Appreciation cooperative with the Israel Sinfonietta in Beersheva, is one of the many cultural initiatives offered to Negba\u2019s children and youth.\u00a0 Studies demonstrate that cultural exposure expands the imagination and fosters emotional and social development.\u00a0 Tima K., 11, was greatly moved by the project, and he now has a new perspective on people.\u00a0 \u00ab\u00a0My favorite play, <em>The Witch from the House Next Door<\/em>, was about three unpopular kids who became friends with a neighbor, an immigrant woman, and helped her.\u00a0\u00a0 It taught me that even if someone is an immigrant and you don\u2019t understand what they\u2019re saying, we shouldn\u2019t hate them or laugh at them.\u00a0 We should look at them for who they are.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An important part of Negba\u2019s mission\u00a0is to enable children in its care to develop their cultural capacities to the same levels as children born into families with greater opportunities.\u00a0 Negba\u2019s Theater Appreciation project is one example of Negba\u2019s success at broadening the children\u2019s horizons and piquing their interest in other&hellip;
