07/7/2016 - Happy 10th Birthday Negba!
A festive event was held to mark the first decade of Negba’s activity on behalf of children at-risk. Scores of Negba children kicked off the celebratory evening by trekking 2.5 kilometers to the Beersheva Performing Arts Center. There they and Negba’s honored guests and parents enjoyed refreshments-some prepared by members of Negba’s Teen Club- and then a colorful program to honor Negba’s achievements from its founding in 2006.
The formal program opened with warm greetings from Dr. Heftsi Zohar, Deputy Mayor of Beersheva responsible for the education and welfare portfolios, and from Etti Cohen, Director of Beersheva’s Department of Welfare and Social Affairs. The strong cooperation between the City of Beersheva and Negba, from the early stages when Negba began operating in Israel’s southern capital, is a critical factor in Negba’s success. This partnership continues on behalf of the residents of Beersheva, with the anticipated commencement of construction this month of the future Negba After-School Center for Children At-Risk.
Certificates of merit were awarded to this year’s excelling students, and then the audience enjoyed a video recapping 10 years of activity, followed by dance sequences performed by Negba’s children and a play staged by Negba’s national service volunteers.
“Negba is a Bayit (home) for me,” said many of the children in the video. “Here we can dream and try to achieve things.” On to the next decade of helping these wonderful children attain their aspirations.
